Coming Back

I haven't blogged for a long time, largely due to the fatigue and recovery period I have been experiencing for the last month. Thankfully, as predicted, my strength has been getting noticeably better every week. I still occasionally experience post-chemo symptoms and need more rest, but I'm light years ahead of where I was a month ago.

My doc's RN recommended I go through a physical therapy program for cancer patients before returning to the gym. But I didn't have the patience to wait for the appointment, and went back to the gym anyway. Of course I was smart enough to take it very, very easy at first. I felt like a little old lady lifting teeny-tiny weights while everyone around me was hefting serious iron. But one step at a time. My workouts are more robust now, but of course I'm still a long ways from the amount I was lifting pre-chemo. I think I'm even starting to see a little bit of a return of my old body. So this weekend I snapped the accompanying photo to serve as a milepost.

And hair? If only it was returning as fast. But some things take more time, I guess. I am getting a little "peach fuzz" on my head, though, so maybe that's a sign that new growth is beginning. More beginnings to come...
