Doctor, doctor!

In today's "Well, that was weird" department, I got picked up today. Literally. Right on the street.

I was, as they say, minding my own business, walking to work when a car stopped at an intersection to let me traverse the crosswalk. The driver looked at me. Intently. Smiling. And he was not unattractive by any means. Square jawed, blue eyes, trimmed beard. Wow.

So unusual was this that I was at first startled or at least mildly disconcerted. I soon recovered and returned the smile. As I left the crosswalk, I turned to look back and smile again.

The car turned the corner in my direction and pulled over to the curb. He rolled down the window and asked if I wanted a ride. Again, not something that happens every day.

By the end of the short 5-block trip, we were holding hands and I learned he was a doctor who had recently relocated to the area. Nice! I gave him my email address. He stopped at his destination (the gym — also nice), and I continued my walk to work.

Such chance meetings are fun, but I don't expect anything beyond this brief ego boost. In my experience, men who come on so boldly so quickly are almost always in long-term relationships and are only looking for a little quick nookie. Which is fine, of course; lord knows I have enjoyed a few of those in my day. But that's not what I'm looking for right now. So that, as they say, is that.

But it was fun while it lasted.
